In 2027, a quiet migration becomes the largest single-year exodus in modern American history: three hundred thousand Black Americans board planes bound for Accra. Among them is Hank Adjei-Bishop — a Brooklyn hedge-fund heir who has never set foot in the country his grandfather fled. He tells his family he's going for two weeks. He does not come back.
Ghana's Year of Return was only the beginning. By 2026 the trickle has become a tide — artists, engineers, retirees, TikTokers, tech founders, teachers, all quietly selling brownstones in Bed-Stuy and Baldwin Hills to buy land outside Kumasi. The world calls it The Return. The airlines call it a gold rush. The State Department calls it a problem.
Hank is not one of them. He is thirty-one, wealthy, engaged to a Manhattan gallerist, and about to inherit his father's fund. Then his grandmother dies and leaves him one thing: a hand-drawn map to a village called Nkawkaw, and a note that reads, "Go find out who you were before we told you who to be."
What follows is a fish-out-of-water love story in reverse — an American prince stumbling through a country that does not owe him a welcome, chasing a woman who has no idea who his family is, and slowly realizing the joke isn't on her. It's on him.

The Teacher
Twenty-eight. Runs a girls' STEM academy in Nkawkaw. Refuses to be impressed. Owns exactly one dress she calls her "funeral, wedding, and interview."
The Cousin
Atlanta-raised, first cousin, packed six suitcases and a Yeti. Believes mosquitoes are personal. Falls in love with the wrong woman in every chapter.
The Father
Sixty-two. Built the fund. Left Ghana at seventeen and swore never to return. Arrives in Act Three on a Gulfstream. Prepared to buy the village. Unprepared for his son.
The Matriarch
Age unknown, refuses to say. Runs the family compound. Has been waiting forty-four years for Kwame to come home and is not going to be gentle about it.
The Fiancée
Manhattan gallerist. Engaged to Hank. Follows him to Ghana in Chapter Six with a documentary crew, a ring binder, and a plan.
